Strategic Focus : Cultural Stewardship : Multicultural Arts Leadership Initiative (MALI)

MALI continues to develop, nurture, activate and grow multicultural arts leaders through professional development, training, and mentorship programs that leverage Silicon Valley’s culture of networking and American Leadership Forum's model of collaborative leadership, community engagement and advocacy.

MALI Goals:

  • Build a strong cross-sector network of multicultural leaders to create and impact policy and work across sectors, cultures and generations for the greater good
  • Build the confidence and skills of the next generation of leaders and develop a strong pipeline of future arts leaders for the region
  • Create a mechanism for multicultural arts leaders to have a voice in community conversations
  • Increase the strength of arts organizations by further developing their key staff

Progress to Date: MALI has offered an in-depth and hands-on leadership training experience for 12-15 multicultural arts leaders each year for the past three years. Three “classes” of leaders have completed the program and a fourth class is currently in progress. A strong network of 35 leaders is in place and members are actively participating in leadership roles, and community-wide conversations and collaborations.
