Great Cities Speaker Series / Carol Coletta

October 9 , 2008
The Next Generation City
Carol Coletta, president, CEOs for Cities and host, Smart City Radio
Venue: Le Petit Trianon Theatre, 72 North Fifth Street, San Jose, CA

Carol will discuss how local leaders and activist citizens can capitalize on a number of positive trends shaping cities today. In particular, Carol will explore the importance of developing Next Generation Cities that respond to the new realities of a knowledge economy. Carol will specifically address how cities that want to thrive in this economy need to excel in four areas:

  1. developing, maximizing and retaining talent;
  2. fostering innovation and entrepreneurship;
  3. linking people with ideas to talent, capital and markets; cities to regions; and regions to the global world and;
  4. capitalizing on local differences to build economic opportunity

Cities firing on all four of these cylinders are positioned to offer up solutions to some of our nation’s most pressing challenges including global warming, access to opportunity, obesity and other health problems, and living peacefully in the midst of diversity to name just a few.
